Traps, Tricks & Mistakes: Underrated Surprise

In Batumi (Republic of Georgia) took place the 43rd Chess Olympiad 2018. Today’s game corresponds to the women’s section.
It was in round 1 when team USA met team Uruguay. USA was the favourite team because of the higher rating of its players. However, in board 3 Andreina Quevedo (Uruguay) surprised her opponent. Not because she played strategically better, but because her opponent lost the thread.

Apparently, because of the difference of 500 points in rating, Foisor relaxed expecting an easy win. However, her opponent found a way to counterplay when Sabina was busy with her plan of central dominance.

Dear reader, as Mikhail Chigorin used to say: “Even a poor plan is better than no plan at all”. Foisor was following her plan but switched her “Tactics Radar” off.
