Traps, Tricks & Mistakes: Humble Pawn Trap

The London System is nowadays a popular way of playing the Queen’s Pawn opening.

Chess players name the London a system because the same structure of pawns and pieces adapts to many of Black’s answers. It’s easy to understand and players with White tend to react almost automatically to Black’s moves. Because of that today’s trap has a high chance to surprise London practitioners.

You will find similarities with the Symmetrical Noah Ark’s trap already presented in a previous post.

It’s also worth mentioning that when being familiar with a system (like today’s London), the player tends to assess ‘rare moves’ as ‘bad moves’. In doing so, the risk to fall into a trap is high. The ability to spotting traps relaxes.

In any case, today’s trap is suitable for catching your opponents in blitz games.
