Game Spotlight: 61st NCC Open 1

Last weekend was Nairobi Chess Club’s 61st Anniversary Open Championship.  We had 82 players show up to compete, including players from Uganda.  Players competed in three sections according to FIDE rating: Under 1600, Under 1800, and Open.  We’ve compiled the game scores from both the Open and Under 1800 sections, which I’ll be exploring over the coming weeks.  Thank you to all who participated and supported this event.

Well, there is one extra game we collected.  Among the prizes awarded to players in the Under 1600 section, the best previously unrated player was Ashwina Haria-Skuse, with a score of 4.5 in 6 rounds.  Her first round game shows quite a bit of positional skill:
