Game Spotlight: 2019 Rwabushenyi Memorial 1

The Rwabushenyi Memorial Open Chess Championship, hosted in Kampala, has become East Africa’s premier event.  As usual, there was a group of Kenyans participating in the 2019 version.  While a Kenyan still hasn’t lifted the trophy, there were respectable results, with CM Ben Magana and Peter Gilruth finishing in a large tie for fourth place on 6 points for 8 rounds, with Gilruth picking up the prize for best senior player.  Here’s Gilruth’s last round game, that he calls a “classic squeeze play”:
