Traps, Tricks & Mistakes: The Fishing Pole
The Fishing Pole is a trap that mostly appears in variations of the Ruy Lopez. Black offers a knight as a bait in g4, while the black h-pawn acting as a “fishing pole” from h5. If White takes the knight, an immediate mate attack happens.
Black sets the trap. If White takes the bait, the end of the game comes soon. If White decides not to take the offered knight and develop his/her other pieces, then Black can retreat the knight without any loss. So, this trap is worth to try from time to time.
