Traps, Tricks & Mistakes: Legal Trap
This trap has more than 250 years. It was one of the first checkmates I was taught and I was impressed by its simple beauty. According to chess history, it is known after a game between François de Legall and Saint Brie, played in Paris around 1750 in the (at that time) famous Café de la Régence, where Legal used to visit frequently.
This trap rarely appears in tournaments. Only beginners can, from time to time, be trapped in it. Once I was fortunate to set the trap up in a club game … and I succeeded!!!
