Traps, Tricks & Mistakes: Englund Trap Reversed

Today’s example is a variation of the Englund Trap, already presented in a previous post. The game begins with the initial moves from the Scandinavian defence: 1.e4 d5 and deviates with 2.Nf3 into the Tennison Gambit.

In this Gambit, White offers a pawn in the opening. Gambits always aim of getting some advantage by means of a sacrifice. It is usually a bad idea for the side which accepts the gambit, to keep the loot.
