Traps, Tricks & Mistakes: Queen’s Coffin
Chess players learn that is a good practice to develop pieces in the opening and not to play too early the queen. However, there are exceptions to the latter.
The first exception is when playing the queen gives an immediate advantage. For instance checkmate attack o winning material.
The second exception is when it gives a strategic advantage. For instance, disrupting the coordination of the opponent’s pieces or disrupting his plan.
In today’s game, the player with White decided to play his queen and created pressure on Black’s knight on c6 and using the pin on Black’s a6 pawn. He was trying to obtain a strategic advantage from Black’s cramped pieces. However, he miscalculated something.
