Every chess beginner learns more or less painfully that the king needs protection. Leaving the king alone is the safest way to get checkmated.
In today’s game, both players develop their pieces according to usual chess principles in the opening.
Nevertheless, at some point, Black’s level of attention relaxes and allows White to take a decisive initiative and conclude the game in brilliant style.
Black assumed that his position was safe enough to look for better squares for his pieces. But he was not completely aware of White’s plan.
