Traps, Tricks & Mistakes: Elephant Gambit

The Elephant Gambit (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d5) is a rarely played chess opening.

White can capture one of Black’s centre pawns, either by 3.exd5 or 3.Nxe5. According to chess theory, White gets the initiative and controls more space, while Black is in a passive position.

In today’s example, the weakening of black’s position drives to a beautiful checkmate.

The Elephant Gambit is not considered sound at the Master level but playable at club level.
